CONCEPT:
For context, the subject matter is from a Studio Ghibli film, Castle in the Sky; the moss-covered robot is the only active Laputan robot in Laputa, the castle in the sky. The individual robot is the caretaker of Laputa. There are two types of Laputan Robots: the weapon and the keeper. The weapon robots are characterized by their spikey bodies, while the caretakers are covered in moss and are known to be gentle with the environment and the animals. The film mirrors the effects of economic growth at the expense of ecological resources.
This work is open for interpretation because I want my audience to be able to liberate their mental and emotional connection to the environment. Since we are in the modern world, we are becoming reliant on technology, especially robots and artificial intelligence. The purpose of this work is to spark a discussion even when it’s short and subtle.
